Details
Bobby Orr came out of the gate hard to start the 1976-77 NHL season. After appearing in just ten games for the Boston Bruins in the previous campaign, he was started anew with the Chicago Blackhawks. In his first game, a 6-4 win over the St. Louis Blues on the road at the Checkerdome, Orr contributed a goal and two assists in the victory.
Unfortunately, his knee issues flared up and Bobby played just 20 games for the Hawks that season. He scored five goals and totaled 23 points, on pace for a great campaign but it wasn’t to be. He missed the full 1977-78 season and returned to Chicago for 1978-79 but retired after playing just six games.
Orr finished his NHL career with eight Norris Trophy wins while being a three time Hart Trophy winner and two time Conn Smythe Trophy recipient. He is the only defenseman to win the Art Ross Trophy, accomplishing that feat twice.
Between 1966-67 and 1978-79, Bobby Orr appeared in 657 regular season and 74 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Boston Bruins and Chicago Blackhawks. His jersey number 4 was retired by the Bruins in 1979 and he was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame the same year.
