Card Notes
“Bill’s Dad was outstanding goalie in early 20’s”
In 1921, Charles Hay helped the University of Saskatchewan reach the Allan Cup finals. However, Red Hay’s Dad is bets known for his work in forming what is now ‘Hockey Canada’. Charles played a key role in making the 1972 Summit Series between Canada and the Soviet Union become a reality.
Interestingly, both Bill and Charles are members of the Hockey Hall of Fame but not for the accomplishments on the ice. Both were inducted in the Builders category, Charles in 1974 and Bill in 2015.
Bill Hay’s NHL career lasted from just 1959-60 to 1966-67. However, in that short time, he won the Calder Trophy as rookie of the year and helped the Chicago Blackhawks to a Stanley Cup championship in 1960-61.
