Last June the N.Y. Islanders had plans for using Bart’s talent but Los Angeles got to him first. Bart is always a hard checker who makes it tough for the other team to score. Last year he won the CHL Outstanding Defenseman Award.

Bart Crashley was the fifth player picked in the 1972 NHL Expansion Draft and the third picked by the New York Islanders, behind goaltenders Gerry Desjardins and Billy Smith. At the time, Crashley was property of the Montreal Canadiens. He had never played with the Habs, coming over from the Detroit Red Wings in a June 6, 1969 trade with Pete Mahovlich for Garry Monahan and Doug Piper.
Crashley would spend two years with the Los Angeles Sharks in the World Hockey Association, 1972-73 and 1973-74. Over two seasons with the Sharks, Bart put up 75 points from the blue line in 148 regular season games.
In 1971-72, playing for the Dallas Black Hawks, Bart scored 20 goals and assisted on 38 for 58 points over 56 games. He was honoured with the CHL’s Most Valuable Defenseman Award. He helped Dallas finish first overall but was reduced to just six games as the Black Hawks captured the playoff championship, taking out the Tulsa Oilers in the final.
His NHL career consisted of 140 games spread out between 1965-66 and 1975-76 with the Detroit Red Wings, Kansas City Scouts and Los Angeles Kings. His return to Los Angeles came in a trade between the Red Wings and Kings on June 23, 1975. He went west with Marcel Dionne while Terry Harper and Dan Maloney went to Motown. Crashley and Maloney had previously been teammates with the Dallas Blackhawks.
