Card Notes
Once called best prospect since Gordie Howe, Alex has starred for seven years with Wings.
Called ‘Swivel Neck’ because he moves head side to side while carrying the puck.
Delvecchio’s 59 points in 1957-58 tied his career best. Alex put up 59 in his second season in the National Hockey League, 1952-53. His career best for goals came in 1965-66 when he netted 31 for the Red Wings. It was the only time he topped the 30 goal plateau over his lengthy NHL career. His career best for points came in 1968-69 when he totaled 83.
After just his seventh year in the NHL, maybe Swivel Neck was a nickname used for Alex Delvecchio. If it was, it died. In its replacement was the commonly known “Fats”.
