Details

Bryan Watson definitely had some mentoring in 1964-65 with the Quebec Aces in the AHL. Along with playing on the blue line with Doug Harvey, he was coached by Bernie Geoffrion. Watson was fourth in the league with 186 penalty minutes.

Chicago was not the only team to acquire Bugsy but not play him. At the 1967 NHL Expansion Draft, Watson was the 15th player selected by the Minnesota North Stars (from Detroit) but he ended up returning to the Montreal Canadiens for his 12 NHL games in 1967-68.

In that 1967-68 season, he played mostly with the Houston Apollos, Montreal’s CHL farm club. Bryan made an impact, named both the league’s most valuable player and top defenseman. All that while leading the league with 293 PIM.

Between 1963-64 and 1978-79, Bryan Watson played 877 regular season and 32 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Montreal Canadiens, Detroit Red Wings, Oakland Seals, Pittsburgh Penguins, St. Louis Blues and Washington Capitals. He also played a handful of games in the WHA with the Cincinnati Stingers in 1978-79.
