Details

Mike Liut may have led the WHA with three shutouts in 1978-79. However, it doesn’t note that it was a tie. Dave Dryden (Edmonton Oilers), Richard Brodeur (Quebec Nordiques) and Jim Corsi (Quebec Nordiques) also had three blanks each. With the likes of Robbie Ftorek, Mike Gartner and Mark Messier on the roster, the Stingers most likely would have been a dominant force if the league had lasted another season.

Liut was a First Team All-Star goalie in 1980-81 and was also honoured with the Lester B. Pearson Award (now Ted Lindsay Award) as the player voted most valuable by the members of the NHLPA. He would be selected as a Second Team All-Star in 1986-87 while playing for the Hartford Whalers.

Between 1979-80 and 1991-92, Liut played in 664 regular season and 67 Stanley Cup playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Blues, Whalers and Washington Capitals. He posted a career 3.49 goals against average with 25 shutouts.
