Details

ERROR – It’s small but, Norm Ullman was born in Provost, Alberta, not Provist, Alabama (there is no Provist, Alabama).

1956-57 was Ullman’s second year in the National Hockey League and his improvement over his rookie season was massive. In 1955-56, Norm had nine goals and 18 points over 66 games with the Red Wings. He doubled his goal production and nearly tripled his point total in 1956-57.

He would lead the NHL in goal scoring in 1964-65 with 42, three more than Bobby Hull of the Chicago Blackhawks. Norm’s highest point total came during the 1970-71 season when he contributed 85 with the Toronto Maple Leafs. That number was good for sixth in the league, although a distant 67 points behind Art Ross Trophy winner Phil Esposito of the Boston Bruins.

Ullman played 1,410 games in the NHL between 1955-56 and 1974-75 with the Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs. That total places him 37th all-time for most games played over a National Hockey League career. Norm was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1982.
