Syl is the son of a member of Hockey’s Hall of Fame. His dad was a star with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Young Syl has reached stardom. He’s a fine playmaker who led the Penguins in scoring for three straight seasons. A specialist on the Pittsburgh power play. Syl once scored two goals inside of 20 seconds. The Penguins acquired Syl during the 1970-71 season.

Details

Syl Apps started his NHL career with the New York Rangers in 1970-71. However, he lasted with the club just 31 games before a January 26, 1971 trade sent him to the Pittsburgh Penguins for Glen Sather.

Apps consistently put up good offensive numbers during his time with the Penguins. He peaked in 1975-76 with 32 goals and 67 assists for 99 points. The point total was good for 10th in the NHL but surprisingly just third on the Penguins, behind Pierre Larouche and Jean Pronovost. His 67 assists tied him for sixth in the league with Denis Potvin of the New York Islanders.

In all, Syl played 727 regular season and 23 Stanley Cup playoff games in the National Hockey League between 1970-71 and 1979-80 with the Rangers, Penguins and Los Angeles Kings.
