Details
The back of the card notes that Vaclav Nedomansky was acquired via a trade with Birmingham. This trade, on November 15, 1977, was indeed a rare trade between teams from the NHL and WHA. Nedomansky and Tim Sheehy were sent from the Birmingham Bulls to the Detroit Red Wings for Dave Hanson and Steve Durbano.
I believe there’s a slight error on the back of the card. Nedomansky was named the top forward at the 1974 World Championships, not the 1973 version. He was also named to the tournament all-star team. The games were held in Helsinki, Finland and Vaclav’s Czechoslovakia team went away with a silver medal.
Nedomansky played nine World Championships with Czechoslovakia and also played in the Winter Olympic Games for his country twice. He was inducted into the IIHF Hall of Fame in 1997 and into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2020.
