A sturdy winger who has put in two campaigns in N.Y. after maiden pro year at Providence. Canadians had deal cooked up for Guy until an injury cancelled it.
Details
Guy Gendron had an exceptional rookie pro year with the Providence Reds in 1954-55. He scored 24 goals in just 47 games. However, it wasn’t enough to get Providence out of the AHL basement and it wasn’t enough to win the Dudley Red Garrett Memorial Award as rookie of the year. Those honours went to Jimmy Anderson of the Springfield Indians.
Gendron did get his chance to play for the hometown Montreal Canadiens. He started the 1960-61 season with the Boston Bruins. However, a November 27, 1960 trade sent him to Montreal, in exchange for Andre Pronovost.
His time in Montreal was short. Guy played out the 1960-61 season with the Habs but was back with the New York Rangers at the start of 1961-62. He was also make a return to Boston the year after that.
Gendron spent four years in the AHL with the Quebec Aces from 1964-65 to 1967-68. However, just when it looked like his NHL days were over, the Philadelphia Flyers picked him up and gave him a ‘second’ career. Jean Guy played with the Flyers for four seasons before jumping to the WHA and the Quebec Nordiques for the league’s inaugural 1972-73 season.
