The Maple Leafs use Brian on either left wing or right wing. A strong skater, Brian starred for Canada’s National Team in World competition. Last year was Brian’s first in the NHL and he showed to all that he is carrying on the Conacher name in Canadian sports.

At the 1964 Winter Olympic Games in Innsbruck, Austria, Conacher scored an impressive seven goals in seven games for Canada. The team tied for second overall but was relegated to fourth place, losing the tie-breaker.
Brian is the son of Lionel Conacher and nephew of Charlie Conacher and Roy Conacher. The multi-sport Lionel “Big Train” Conacher was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1998. Charlie “The Big Bomber” Conacher was inducted into the HHOF in 1967. Roy Conacher was also inducted in 1998.
1966-67 was Brian’s first full season in the NHL but he did appear in a single game with the Maple Leafs in 1961-62 and two more in 1965-66. In his rookie season, he scored 14 goals and assisted on 13 for 27 points over 66 games. In the voting for the Calder Trophy as NHL rookie of the year, Brian finished third behind winner Bobby Orr and runner-up Ed Van Impe.
In his first game of the 1966-67 NHL season, Conacher scored two goals in a home game against the New York Rangers. In a 4-4 tie, Brian opened the scoring with a first period marker assisted by Brit Selby and Eddie Shack just 58 seconds into the game. His second goal, again assisted by Shack, put the Leafs up 4-1 but Toronto couldn’t hold the lead.
In the 1966-67 playoffs, Conacher scored three goals. Two of those were game winners. In game 6 of the opening round against the Chicago Blackhawks, Brian had a pair of goals in the 3-1 win. The second, scored on Glenn Hall, was the game and series clincher. In game 5 of the final series against the Canadiens, Brian had the game winner to put the Leafs up 3-2 in the set.
Between 1961-62 and 1971-72, Brian Conacher played 155 regular season and 12 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Toronto Maple Leafs and Detroit Red Wings. He also played a season in the WHA with the Ottawa Nationals, 1972-73.
