Card Notes

The amount the Rangers paid Providence for Allan in 1948 was $70,000 in cash and players. He made good in the NHL immediately. However, early last season he slumped and was sent to Vancouver. He’s back this year and showing his old aggressiveness. His best scoring season was 1950-51 when in 70 games he had 7 goals and 14 assists for 21 total points.

Details

Allan Stanley didn’t remain with the New York Rangers long. After playing just 12 games with the club to start the 1954-55 NHL season, he was traded to the Chicago Blackhawks on November 23, 1954 with Nick Mickoski for Pete Conacher and Bill Gadsby.

With the Hawks, Stanley played with a vengeance. In 52 games, the blue liner scored ten goals and assisted on 15 more for 25 points. It was the first of only two times he’d reach ten goals in a season with the other being 1959-60 with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Six of those points came against the Rangers.

On December 26, 1954, his second visit to Madison Square Garden as a Blackhawk, Allan scored a pair of second period goals on Rangers goalie Gump Worsley. The game ended in a 4-4 tie, fitting for the battle of the basement in the Original 6 NHL era.

Between 1948-49 and 1968-69, Allan Stanley played 1,244 regular season and 109 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the New York Rangers, Chicago Blackhawks, Boston Bruins, Toronto Maple Leafs and Philadelphia Flyers. The four time Stanley Cup champion and three time Second Team All-Star was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1981.
