Details

In 1966-67, Pierre Pilote would make it five consecutive seasons as a First Team All-Star defenseman in the NHL, his last time selected. He finished with 52 points, seven off his career best set two years before. He was runner-up to Harry Howell of the New York Rangers in a tight race for the Norris Trophy.

Three of his 52 points came in a 5-2 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs, a team he would join two years later. On March 5, 1967, Pierre assisted on goals by Bobby Hull, Lou Angotti and Doug Mohns. The Mohns goal was scored shorthanded with Ken Hodge in the box for elbowing. He would have another three point game against the Leafs in the post season.

Over his NHL career, Pilote was a three-time Norris Trophy winner and a three-time runner-up for the award going to the league’s top defenseman. He also was the NHL’s penalty minute leader in 1960-61 with 165, a 20 PIM edge over runner-up and teammate Reg Fleming. That year, he helped the Blackhawks to a Stanley Cup championship.

Between 1955-56 and 1968-69, Pierre Pilote played 890 regular season and 86 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Chicago Blackhawks and Toronto Maple Leafs. Pilote was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1975.
