Details

A slight ERROR on the back of this card: The top defenseman in the AHL gets the Eddie Shore Award and not the Eddie Shore Trophy.

The five full seasons in the American Hockey League for Ted Harris were amazingly successful. He was a big part of the Springfield Indians three consecutive year run as Calder Cup champions between 1959-60 and 1961-62. In 1963-64, Harris moved on to the Cleveland Barons and won another Calder title, along with the Eddie Shore Award as mentioned on the back of this 1967-68 Topps hockey card.

Ted then caught on as a regular with the Montreal Canadiens and won four Stanley Cup championships over his first five full seasons with the team. His best season with Montreal would come in 1968-69 when the solid defenseman scored seven goals and totaled 25 points. He was fourth in voting for the Norris Trophy as the NHL’s top defenseman behind winner Bobby Orr, runner-up Tim Horton and third place Ted Green. He was also a Second Team All-Star that season.

At the start of the 1970-71 NHL season, Harris found himself playing for the Minnesota North Stars. With the Stars, Ted had a career high 30 points in 1972-73. In 1970-71, he got some consideration for the Hart Trophy, finishing tied for 14th in voting.

Between 1963-64 and 1974-75, Ted Harris played 788 regular season and 100 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Montreal Canadiens, Minnesota North Stars, Detroit Red Wings, St. Louis Blues and Philadelphia Flyers. Along with his four Stanley Cup championships with the Habs, he added one more with the Flyers in his final year as a player. Harris went on to be head coach of the North Stars after retiring as a player.
