1976-77 would be a big year for Rogie Vachon. He recorded a career high eight shutouts while playing 68 of 80 regular season games for the Los Angeles Kings. He was a Second Team All-Star behind Ken Dryden and finished third in voting for the Hart Trophy behind winner Guy Lafleur and runner-up Bobby Clarke.
His eight blanks placed him second in the NHL behind Ken Dryden and his ten shutouts. The shutout games ranged in shots from just 14 in a 6-0 win over the Washington Capitals to 31 in 0-0 tie with the Cleveland Barons. In that game, it was Gary Simmons making 37 saves for the Barons, including ten from Marcel Dionne.
In that 1976-77 season, Vachon would face 30 or more shots in 27 games. On four occasions, he faced 40 or more, including a pair of season high 46 shot games, both against the Montreal Canadiens. In the first, the Habs won 6-0. However, in the second, Rogie got his team a 3-3 tie, making 43 saves, including eight on Guy Lafleur who was limited to just one goal.
Between 1966-67 and 1981-82, Rogie Vachon played 795 regular season and 48 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Montreal Canadiens, Los Angeles Kings, Detroit Red Wings and Boston Bruins. He was a three-time Stanley Cup champion with the Habs and shared the Vezina in 1967-68 with Gump Worsley.
