In 1979-80, Steve Vickers proved he still had that deadly touch around the net in what was, for the most part, his swan song year in the NHL. Scoring 29 goals on just 98 shots, his 29.6 shooting percentage led the National Hockey League. He scored just two goals in the playoffs, both in a single game against the Atlanta Flames (more on that in the Facebook post below).
Over his ten year NHL career, Vickers reached the 20 goal plateau six times. His career high came in 1974-75 when he scored 41 and totaled 89 points. His goal total placed him ninth in the league, 20 behind leader Phil Esposito and one ahead of Rene Robert of the Buffalo Sabres.
The 1972-73 Calder Trophy winner as NHL rookie of the year played 698 regular season and 68 playoff games in the National Hockey League between 1972-73 and 1981-82, all with the New York Rangers. Vickers was the tenth overall pick at the 1971 NHL Amateur Draft after playing junior with the Toronto Marlboros.
