Card Notes
Rosaire could be the “policeman” Vancouver needs in its first season in the NHL. He was drafted by Canucks in the 1970 Expansion Draft from Philadelphia, where Vancouver general manager watched him while the two were members of the Flyers. He loves rough going and will not back down from the NHL’s “tough guys”.
Details
There’s a few ERRORS on the back of this 1970-71 O-Pee-Chee Rosaire Paiement hockey card. First, the career stats of 4 goals, five assists and 74 PIM are correct. However, the part about not playing in the NHL in 1969-70 is wrong. Rosaire played 43 regular season games with the Philadelphia Flyers over the previous three seasons, including nine in 1969-70.
The other ERROR is geographical. Halisbury, Ontario is not a real town. Most likely, they were trying to say Haileybury, a town near the town of Earlton where Paiement was actually born, same as his NHL playing brother Wilf Paiement.
As for being the policeman in the inaugural 1970-71 NHL season for the Vancouver Canucks, Paiement did a pretty good job of that, leading the team with 152 penalty minutes, three more than runner-up Pat Quinn. But, he was than just the team goon. He led the Canucks with 34 goals and was four points behind team leader Andre Boudrias.
Rosaire’s numbers dropped significantly in 1971-72, scoring just ten goals in 69 games for Vancouver. The following year, he was off to the Chicago Cougars for the inaugural WHA season. He finished out his pro career playing six years in the WHA with the Cougars, New England Whalers and Indianapolis Racers.
Between 1967-68 and 1971-72, Rosaire Paiement played 190 regular season and three playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Philadelphia Flyers and Vancouver Canucks. He was originally a prospect of the Boston Bruins, playing junior for the Boston sponsored Niagara Falls Flyers. In 1966-67, he led the EHL with 61 goals and 125 points playing for the Jersey Devils.
