Card Notes
Durability and a solid knack for scoring goals are the chief assets of Danny Grant. The former rookie of the year has missed only one game in the last six seasons. He always scores about 30 goals per season. Good around the net and a good skater. Danny trails only teammate Bill Goldsworthy in Minnesota’s all-time scoring. Danny is a clean, effective player who is always in the right position.
Details
Danny Grant had a career year in 1974-75 but it wasn’t with the Minnesota North Stars. On August 27, 1974, he was traded to the Detroit Red Wings for Henry Boucha. With the Red Wings, Grant became the franchise’s second 50 goal scorer, putting in exactly 50. Only Mickey Redmond had previously reached the plateau with Detroit.
Unfortunately for Grant, his durability would disappear after that 1974-75 NHL season. Catching the injury bug, Danny would not play a full schedule again over his career. Despite the 50 goals in 1974-75, Grant would notch just a single hat trick.
In a 5-4 loss to the Vancouver Canucks on February 14, 1975, Danny scored three of Detroit’s four goals, putting five of the team’s 30 shots on Gary Smith. His third of the game and 35th of the year was scored at 14:14 of the third period, giving the Wings a 4-3 lead. However, Ab DeMarco and Dennis Ververgaert scored for the Canucks in the final three minutes for the win.
Between 1965-66 and 1978-79, Danny Grant played 736 regular season and 43 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Montreal Canadiens, Minnesota North Stars, Detroit Red Wings and Los Angeles Kings. In six seasons, he scored at least 29 goals.
