Card Notes

Now in his 15th season in the National Hockey League, Bobby has gained a fine reputation as one of the circuit’s most reliable performers. He can play all three forward positions, although his normal slot is at center ice. He’s been compared to a “quarter-back on ice”, with expert performances on the power play and with his smooth passing game. Has also played for Montreal and Minnesota. Bobby once scored five goals in a single game.

Details

Bobby Rousseau played just eight games for the New York Rangers in 1974-75 before calling it a career. He started the season with a bang, assisting on two goals on opening night against the Toronto Maple Leafs. His helpers came in the third period on goals by Greg Polis and Rick Middleton but it wasn’t enough with the Blue Shirts falling to the Buds 7-3.

Rousseau’s five goal game occurred on February 1, 1964 against the Detroit Red Wings at the Montreal Forum. It was his first of four career hat tricks. Rousseau scored five goals on Roger Crozier on nine shots in the 9-3 win for the Habs. Henri Richard had a pretty good game of his own for the Canadiens with five assists.

Over his career, Bobby scored 20 or more goals in six seasons. He topped out with 30 in both 1965-66 and 1968-69. In 1961-62, he won the Calder Trophy as NHL rookie of the year with a sizeable lead over the other contenders: Cliff Pennington, Pat Stapleton, Wayne Connelly and Bruce MacGregor.

Between 1960-61 and 1974-75, Bobby Rousseau played 942 regular season and 128 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Montreal Canadiens, Minnesota North Stars and New York Rangers. He won four Stanley Cup championships with the Habs.
