Details
Jim Morrison is truly a story of dedication to and love of the game of hockey. He played 19 games for the New York Rangers in 1960-61 before being relegated to the Quebec Aces of the American Hockey League. He played his last game with the Rangers on November 20, 1960 and waited 3,427 days to play his next NHL game on October 11, 1969 with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
A stay-at-home defenseman that recorded just 40 goals over 704 NHL games, Morrison started 1969-70 with three goals and two assists over his first eleven games before settling back into his defensive defenseman role.
An interesting fact about Morrison is that both his career shorthanded goals were scored on the New York Rangers, both as a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs. On March 7, 1954, Jimmy scored on Rangers goalie Johnny Bower, assisted by Ted Kennedy, with Rudy Migay in the box for tripping. On December 19, 1954, he scored on Gump Worsley, assisted by Ron Stewart and Tod Sloan, with Eric Nesterenko serving a minor for cross-checking.
Between 1951-52 and 1970-71, Jim Morrison played 704 regular season and 36 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Boston Bruins, Toronto Maple Leafs, Detroit Red Wings, New York Rangers and Pittsburgh Penguins. In the AHL, Morrison played 721 regular season and 61 playoff games with the Pittsburgh Hornets, Quebec Aces and Baltimore Clippers.
