Michel is the fifth of eight brothers. A fitness nut, he is probably the Nordiques best conditioned athlete (he won the Merite Entrain Trophy for it last year). Goulet earned Second Team NHL All-Star honours in 1982-83.

Details

1982-83 was the first of four consecutive seasons surpassing the 50 goal plateau for Michel Goulet. His 57 goals that year were a career best. In 1983-84, he tied Phil Esposito‘s NHL record with 16 of his 56 goals being game winners. To date, that remains the league record.

In 1983-84, he also topped out with a career best 121 points. This was good for the team lead, two more than Peter Stastny. His 56 goals were second in the NHL, 31 behind leader Wayne Gretzky. He finished third in the race for the Art Ross Trophy behind Gretzky and Paul Coffey. It was the second of four times reaching the 100 point plateau.

Originally, Goulet was the 20th overall pick by the Nordiques at the 1979 NHL Entry Draft. He had previously played junior for the Quebec Remparts before a season in the WHA with the Birmingham Bulls, 1978-79.

Between 1979-80 and 1993-94, Michel Goulet played 1,089 regular season and 92 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Nordiques and Chicago Blackhawks. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1998.
