Details

As if this 1977-78 O-Pee-Chee hockey card was a jinx for Rick Martin, his NHL rookie record for most goals in a season was broken in 77-78 by Mike Bossy of the New York Islanders. Rick still sits seventh all-time in the category with Teemu Selanne owning the current mark with his 76 goal performance in 1992-93 with the Winnipeg Jets.

Martin’s All-Star selection tally would stand at two times each on the First Team and Second Team. He played in seven consecutive All-Star Games, representing the Buffalo Sabres. His career was cut short by a devastating knee injury in November, 1980.

A fifth overall pick by the Sabres at the 1971 NHL Amateur Draft, Rick played 685 regular season and 63 playoff games in the National Hockey League between 1971-72 and 1981-82. With the exception of five games played with the Los Angeles Kings at the end of his career, he exclusively played for Buffalo. His jersey number 7 has been retired by the club.
